How to Sit Through Meditation With Ease
A common misconception about meditation is that it’s only about achieving enlightenment and avoiding distracting thoughts. Well, that is not entirely true! Meditation is the practice of becoming aware and comfortable with your thought patterns. It may shift your mood but will help you learn to take full responsibility for your sense of self. Hence, it’s not always an easy practice. However, here are some simple techniques that can get you comfortable for a meditation session:
- Set the mood: light some candles, dim the light, or put on some soothing music. Whatever it is you need to do, make sure you’re in a calm setting to start your meditation session.
- Find a comfortable position: You can do the usual cross-legged position to start. However, any position that’s comfortable for you will do.
- Start in smaller time increments: Remember that it’s not necessary to sit through one hour of meditation. It’s okay to start out with just 5-10 minutes.
- Savor all your thoughts: Meditation is not about freeing yourself from unfavorable thoughts. It is about observing it and learning
- Leave expectations behind: As said previously, let go of any expectations! Each session will be different and may never be what you expect. What matters is to take time daily and stay open to experience.
The important part is to let go of any expectations and explore your thoughts. Whether it is positive or negative, get comfortable and be grateful for all of it.
